Made With Love - assembling the blocks

Made With Love is a quilt that celebrates sewing.

Nine applique blocks set with chequered sashing, this quilt comes together fast.

The blocks are available individually or as a bundle here.

Prepare your applique centres. Each block centre should be 8(1/2)” x 8(1/2)”.

Choose the fabrics for the sashing. I used pinks and greens and included the fabrics I used in the appliques.

Cut the following:

alternate 2 green strips and 2 pink strips and join together on the long sides.

Press and subcut into 2(1/2)” wide units of 4 alternating green and pink squares. (A units)

repeat with two more green and two more pink strips.

You will have 18 A units

alternate 3 green strips and 3 pink strips and join together on the long sides.

Press and subcut into 2(1/2)” wide units of 6 alternating green and pink squares. (B units)

repeat with three more green and pink strips.

You will have 18 B units

Assemble sashing

Take 12 A units and sew together in pairs to form 6 short sashing strips.

Repeat with 12 B units to form 6 long sashing strips

Join 3 of the long sashing strips end to end. You’ll have a chequered strip 18 squares long and 2 squares wide.

Repeat with the other three long sashing strips.

Take the remaining six B units and join them end to end in threes to form 2 strips 18 squares long.

Join A units, block centres and short sashing strips to make thee rows

Alternate the rows with long sashing strips, using the diagram as a guide.

Press everything, check it’s square, then layer, quilt and bind as desired.
