FOREST FLOOR EMBROIDERY DESIGN

PURCHASE FOREST FLOOR EMBROIDERY DESIGN

STEP 1:

Circle background placement stitches.

Place appliqué fabric over placement stitches

STEP 2:

Appliqué tackdown

Remove hoop, trim and fuse. Replace hoop

NOTE: the bottom edge will be covered later on, so trim about 2mm from the stitches.

STEP 3:

Buttonhole stitch edge

STEP 4:

Left mushroom placement

Place appliqué fabric over placement stitches

STEP 5:

Appliqué tackdown

Remove hoop, trim and fuse. Replace hoop

NOTE: the top edge will be covered by the cap, so trim about 2mm from the stitches.

STEP 6:

Buttonhole stitch edge

Change to light brown (1256 Teddy Bear)

STEP 7:

Left and right stalks and centre cap placement

Place appliqué fabrics over placement stitches. I used yellow for the stalks and teal for the underside of the centre cap.

STEP 8:

Appliqué tackdown

Remove hoop, trim and fuse. Replace hoop

NOTE: the top edge of the blue centre underside, the base of both stems, and the top of the right stalk will be covered in the next couple of steps, so trim about 2mm from the stitches.

STEP 9:

Buttonhole stitch edge, centre stalk fill, frill details.

Change to deep pink (1034 Vintage Rose)

STEP 10:

Centre mushroom cap placement

Place appliqué fabric over placement stitches

Step 11: Appliqué tackdown

Remove hoop, trim and fuse. Replace hoop

STEP 12:

Left mushroom cap placement

Place appliqué fabric over placement stitches

Step 13: Appliqué tackdown

Remove hoop, trim and fuse. Replace hoop

STEP 14:

Right mushroom cap placement

Place appliqué fabric over placement stitches

Step 15: Appliqué tackdown

Remove hoop, trim and fuse. Replace hoop

STEP 16:

Stem stitch edge

Change to mid green (1048 Aloe)

8X8 SIZE ONLY

STEP 17:

Ferns placement

Place green appliqué fabric over placement stitches

Continue to STEP 18

6X6 SIZE: The ferns are too tiny at this size for applique so the machine will fill stitch them. 

When the ferns are embroidered, continue to STEP 20

 

STEP 18:

Appliqué tackdown

Remove hoop, trim and fuse. Leave a couple of mm of fabric at the bottom edge of each stalk – it will be covered at a later step. Replace hoop

STEP 19:

 Stem stitch edge

Change to light green (1448 Julep)

STEP 20:

French knot fern detail

STEP 21:

Upper mound placement

Place appliqué fabric over placement stitches

STEP 22:

Appliqué tackdown

Remove hoop, trim and fuse. Replace hoop. Leave a couple of mm of extra fabric on the lower edge – it will be covered by the next step.

STEP 23:

Buttonhole stitch edge

Change to deep pink (1034 Vintage Rose)

STEP 24:

Lower mound placement

Place purple appliqué fabric over placement stitches

STEP 25:

Appliqué tackdown

Remove hoop, trim and fuse. Replace hoop

STEP 26:

Buttonhole stitch edge

Unhoop, remove stabiliser and press your appliqué.

To avoid flattening the stitches, dampen the embroidery slightly and press gently from the wrong side, with the right side on top of a soft, absorbent layer eg a wool pressing mat.
