The English Patient

The theme for this month’s Quilt Block Mania is Books – and The English Patient is one of my favourites. The film and the novel are both impossibly romantic, and the setting is gorgeous – Tuscany and North Africa.

I thought a tile design in blue and white would be evocative of both locations with their cool tiles courtyards and interiors.  The Mediterranean Tile design is a stunningly simple construction that results in an intricate pattern – it’s essentially a Disappearing Hourglass block.

Look what happens when you join blocks together. The pattern tessellates beautifully.

The Mediterranean Tile block is perfect for using up scraps.

This 12′ block starts with 8″ squares and stitches up fast, but you can start with squares of any size you like. Try it with a charm pack. The only rule is use two fabrics/colours/shades that contrast well to get the repeating effect.

What’s included?

You’ll get a PDF with full sized templates and links to tips and tutorials

The block measures 12″ finished, plus seam allowances.
